If you’re reading this, it’s because you’ve come to the realization that you have thoughts and ideas you want to share in this world, and you’d like them to be heard. And today, I’m going to help you to become a confident speaker so that you can get your message out and fulfill your dharma.
What, Exactly, Is The Desired Outcome?
Today I’m not going to tell you how to get a bunch of “attention”. If you want to get attention, there are millions of ways to do that. You can wear a tin foil hat and talk about the end of times, cry on your kitchen floor, and film yourself having a total meltdown. So…yeah. We’re not doing that.
What we’re talking about is how to effectively communicate what’s in your heart and soul, and have people actually hear it, understand it, and be impacted by it. Effective communication is the goal.
We’re also getting very clear today on how to carry ourselves, find our voice, and express ourselves fully.
Speaking is an Exchange of Energy
When you speak, you are exchanging energy with the person you’re delivering your message to. And depending on who you’re speaking to, you adjust your delivery. You speak to a small child a little differently than you speak to your boss. You speak to your mom a little differently than you speak to your spouse. You have a unique way of interacting with each individual.
Check in with your body and notice where, energetically, you speak to your spouse from vs where you speak to your boss from. You’ll notice there’s an energetic shift, and different sensations that happen when you speak to them. You’ll also notice that when you speak to your spouse, you have a familiar feeling tone and bundle of sensations. It’s subtle but it’s there. There’s a sort of energetic “dance” that’s happening when you exchange energy with each person.
Life is one giant energetic exchange, and speaking is a targeted modality of exchange. It’s important to accept this paradigm so that your thoughts and ideas are actually heard. If we approach speaking as a purely performative thing, without considering the fact that there’s something deeper happening, your messages won’t be imbued with the light of presence.
So, speaking isn’t just making noice with our vocal cords. It’s actually a divine gift of the human experience wherein we get to connect, express, and dance with life.
Accessing Your True Voice
Because speaking is the transmission of energy, if you want to be an effective speaker, you must have access to your true voice. You don’t need to find your true voice because it’s not something to find.
It’s about letting go of the nonsense that’s blocking your true voice. The main block is the “Will they like me?” and/or “What will they think?”
When you access your true voice, you begin to speak fearlessly. Here are some ways that you can access your true voice.
- Take yourself on dates
- Journal
- Explore silence
- Spend time alone
Some Additional Techniques
We covered a plethora of practical techniques in today’s episode too! One of the most important being to speak to a person, even if there’s only a camera in front of you.
Remember most of all that speaking is an energetic dance, and when you’re being yourself, you can’t go wrong.
Enjoy today’s episode!
