How I Beat Clinical Depression

I struggled with depression for all of my twenties. I’m here as living proof that depression isn’t a lifelong sentence, and complete remission is possible. It’s been eight years since I’ve had depression, and today, I want to share the manifold path of healing. 

Healing has been a lifelong theme of mind. I have healed many things, espescially over the last ten years. If there’s one thing I can tell you with certainty, it’s this: Healing of any kind requires harmonizing the body, mind, & spirit. 

We all want “THE answer” for healing. Espescially for things like depression. We all want one magic bullet, one pill, one big thought, one perfect therapist. The bad news is, that’s not how healing works. The good news is, that’s not how healing works. 

Why is this good news? Because life is one giant school, and healing is the advanced level course.  When you want to heal anything, you’ve just stepped into the collegate level learning territory. And who wants to go to an AP class to have the teacher give you one measly chapter and send you on your way? 

If you have something to heal, consider it an upgrade for your entire being. Body, mind, and spirit. 

Depression Exposed | Undressing the Beast

You’re talking to a jedai master of depression. I dealt with this energy for well over a decade.

I know what it’s like to have a head full of jell-o and a heart full of lead. I know what it’s like to feel the heavy clouds of exhaustion and defeat. I know what it’s like to have a mind full of dark thoughts looping on repeat. It’s miserable. And if you’re there right now, know that you’re not alone in this. 

But I want to take a minute to help you take some of the power of depression away. 

The first and most important thing to realize is that depression is an energy. And though it may feel heavy, painful, and miserable, at the end of the day, the energy of depression is powerless against who and what you truly are. I want you to remember that this will pass, and there is no emotion or energy that is stronger than you are. 

Emotions are not to be feared. Emotions can’t do anything to you. Emotions may be unpleasant, or even awful to feel, but they are nothing more than sensations happening in the body. Just keeping that in mind helps to take the power away from depression.

It’s important to reframe what depression is, and stop giving our mental energy to the thoughts it wants us to entertain. The thoughts are part of the convincing illusions that depression creates. The energy of depression will use any excuse to make you feel worse, to convince you that life is terrible, that you’re terrible, and that nothing is ok. It’s all nonsense.

In today’s video that accompanies this post, I go into eight tools that ultimately liberated me from the energy of depression. 

If there’s one takeaway you get from me, it should be that Depression Is NOT All In Your Head. It is a symptom of inflammation, gut, issues, and/or autoimmunity. Once I started addressing my autoimmune issues, my brain felt SO much better. I was then able to work on the mind & spirit aspects of healing.

It wasn’t an “easy” journey. But life is not meant to be easy. Our souls relish in the learning and growing that comes from overcoming our greatest obstacles. None of it is “easy” but all of it is well worth the payoff. 

The tools I cover are body, mind, spirit practices and changes. I hope you find great value in these. I consider these tools precious, hard earned gems, and I am thrilled to give these gems away to as many people I can. 

When you watch this video, pay close attention to anything that really grabs your attention. Some of the tools may not apply to you, but the ones that grab you will likely be a great benefit. A rule of thumb for life is to always take what resonates and leave what doesn’t.
