Letting go is the most natural thing we as human beings can do. In contrast, one of the most unnatural things is to cling onto the past. Especially as a block to current peace and joy. Yet so many of us do exactly that. We hold off on allowing ourselves to be fully joyful and peaceful because of the stories in our mind, which are nothing more than illusions from the past intruding upon this present moment.
In today’s episode, I wanted to convey to you the simplicity of releasing the past by starting with the fundamental truth and good news…
You are already free from the past
The past does not exist. And of course we can cherish and relish in the beautiful memories of the past, but far too often, the ego uses the past as a sort of torture device to keep us miserable. It hangs onto old stories, old grievances, and old beliefs that are doing nothing except for making us miserable. We complain about the narcissistic partners we’ve had (past)…we wax poetic about our dysfunctional childhoods (past)…we compare ourselves to our younger selves (past)…we assume we need to accomplish certain things to somehow rectify the stories of the past (past).
Very few human beings realize that they do not have to live like this. Even fewer realize the pain they are inflicting on themselves.
But here’s the key….if you’re unhappy for any reason relating to things that have happened in your past, you are free to let it go now. You are safe to let it go now. And you have the right, as a divine and perfect being who is untouched by the past, to let the past go.
Of course we will still grieve loss. Of course we will still use discernment. Of course we will allow our past lessons to guide our present situations if that’s for our highest good. But no longer must we carry the nonsense stories and illusions of a past that is ancient history into this perfect now.
